Welcome author LOUISA KLEIN
About the author
Louisa Klein is 25, lives in the UK but was born in Germany and brought up in Southern Europe by a German dad and an Italian and French mum, which made her a little confused at first. She has a degree in Medieval Studies and a postgraduate one in Marketing. She’s been working in publishing on and off since she was 17 and currently is a freelancer and an Urban Fantasy writer. At night she puts on a mask and fights British crime. She gets very little sleep.
Here's what she has to say in an exclusive interview with Review Buzzz
What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to
sum it up in 30 or less words, what would you say?
My debut novel is called ‘Supernatural
Freak’ and it’s an action-packed urban fantasy with a cute love interest.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I
prefer to call myself a story-teller, since I am also interested in other media
(such as comic-books). As for when I
realized it, there was no breakthrough moment. I have always told stories to my
friends, long before I could even read or write.
How long does it take you to write a book?
It depends. It took me 10 months to write
this one, while working as a freelancer, so definitely NOT writing full time.
What do you think makes
a great story?
Action (a LOT of it), humour and a little
romance. And martial arts. And MORE ACTION.
How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I wrote overall 4 books. First was published when I was 19. I cannot
say much about them, since I was working as a ghost writer at the time and I
signed a non-disclosure agreement at the time. All I can say, is that they were
all fantasy books. But my favourite is
definitely my latest, ‘Supernatural Freak’.
What was your favorite part of the
book?
Any action scene
when Robyn makes witty jokes while fighting a powerful supernatural
baddie.
What was the hardest part to write
in the book?
The beginning,
as always. I am crap at beginnings, I rewrote the first 3 chapters of
Supernatural Freak four times!
Do you have a favorite place you love to write?
Any coffee shop with no loud music and no
screaming children.
How hard is it to get published?
It depends. I’ve been working in publishing
on and off since I was 17. There are a
lot of factors to take into account, including fashion (if your book isn’t
fashionable, it doesn’t matter if it’s
good, the odds are against you.).
It
wasn’t really difficult for me to get published as a ghost writer, since I was
already working in publishing by then. It was VERY difficult to get paid for
what I had written (almost no royalties).
What do your family and friends think about your books?
My editor (who is also a colleague and a
friend) thinks that now it’s ‘a pretty decent book’ but he immediately adds
‘thanks to my invaluable contribution’. Bastard.
What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Gosh, I write all the time, because of my
job (I’m a multilingual editor and copywriter). I read a lot and go to the
cinema as much as I can, since I love fiction (my website is called ‘Lost in
Fiction for a reason). I also watch *cough, cough* a lot of cartoons.
Is
there an Author that you would really like to meet?
Definitely Oscar Wilde. It’s my idol since I was
11. He could tell a deep true with a 3 word aphorism, he fiercely fought Victorian puritanism, ready to pay the
ultimate price to defend his ideas. And, unfortunately, he did.
Who
designed the cover of your book?
If
your book was made into a TV series or Movie, what actors would you like to see
playing your characters?
WOW! That’s a great question! Here’s my dream cast:
Robyn Wise (MC): Tuppence Middleton
Terence Wise (Robyn’s womanizing and alcoholic
uncle): Terry Jones of the Monty Piton.
Sir William Barrow (a ghost and British duke who
lives in Robyn’s attic): Alexis Denisov
James Turner (a wizard, Robyn’s best friend and
maybe more): Hugh Laurie
Susan Turner (a witch and James’s sister): Helen
Mirren
Stephen Turner (a wizard, James’s brother): Stephen
Fry
Gock (a vulture-like wizard): Gok Wan (would
probably only be his voice, since my character would be for sure
computer-generated!)
